What Part of Evil is Good?

light-vs-dark

As a Christian who used to be a Tarot card reader and New Age automatic writer, which is a type of spirit channeler, I have to express great concern over the growing tolerance and fascination with evil among the people of God. Truly, I understand the enticement from an unbeliever point of view. When I was an unbeliever, I thought Halloween stuff, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, sorcery. paranormal and witchcraft were fascinating. That is how I ended up reading Tarot cards for people and writing out messages from the spirit world to share with friends and friends of friends. But, I really am having a very hard time understanding the choices of folks who know the love of Jesus, and profess to be His followers as they post on Facebook, write blog posts, pin or tweet their recommendation of books, movies and TV shows like Twilight, Vampire Diaries, Grimm, Walking Dead/Zombies or shows that glorify casting spells and teach the practice of witchcraft.

It seems so obvious and simple to me that evil is the opposite of Jesus. Jesus is life and evil is death. My Bible says that Jesus is all things Holy and pure. His word also says to separate the base and profane from that which is Holy. These books and movies and celebrations of evil are base and profane. I know that the occult practices are base and profane because I lived that life for over 20 years.

Vampirism, werewolves, zombies, witchcraft, sorcery, Tarot cards, reading palms, horoscopes and all things occult are what held me in bondage so that I could not see or understand who Jesus was to me. It was these dark things that I had to renounce, repent, and receive deliverance, forgiveness and healing so that I could fully enter into a love relationship with Jesus and be led of His Spirit, not evil spirits. It was through rejection of these practices and satan’s minions who masquerade as angels of light that I was able to know and understand what is good, what is holy.

The Word of God says we are to be imitators of Him, to be Holy as He is Holy. We are to overcome evil in our world with good. We are to war against powers and principalities and rulers of darkness in high places and satan is supposed to be under our feet, not streaming on our laptop, in our e-book reader or on our nightstand as our latest favorite book. What we read, see in a movie or TV show, or watch on our computers affects us. I know firsthand that when evil is entertained in this way, evil feels comfortable around us and moves into our lives. It affects our thoughts, decisions, relationship and our intimacy with God. Even celebrating Halloween is entertaining evil.

But, it’s just for fun. It’s not real, it’s make-believe is what I hear from folks I talk to. My response is according to God’s word, evil is very real. According to my first hand experience, it is very real.  Answer these questions honestly in light of the Word of God, in light of Jesus in your heart: What part of evil is just for fun? What part of evil is okay because it is a cartoon or the special effects are sensational or the book gives you thrills or goosebumps? What part of evil glorifies God or bears witness to Jesus Christ in you? Why do you spend the provision the Lord gives you on movies, books and DVDs that are evil? Precious brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, what part of evil is good? What part of evil is holy?

What part of evil should we share when we witness to those who need Jesus as Savior? You say none (I hope and pray) and rightly so. Then, why do you share your love of an evil book or movie with others? Why do you party on Halloween? I have to ask: Is that a good testimony that edifies and lifts up Jesus to the people in your sphere of influence? Does that build the Kingdom of God?

None of us are perfect, I don’t declare perfection. We can err because we simply do not understand or we fell to temptation.  I err and fail. We all do. The Lord knows our weaknesses and His blood covers and His love covers and He forgives when we repent. His Grace is sufficient. But, there is something disturbing about followers of Jesus who have been seduced by the occult. They seem to purposely choose evil vampires, werewolves, witches and paranormal and seem to think nothing of it in fact, they glorify it. That is not to err, it is to knowingly sin, and it leads others into sin, and it is rebellion and pride. Jesus spoke in Revelations to the churches about that in chapters 2 and 3. Not good to entertain evil. Not good to lead others into sin. There are consequences.

I wrote this post because it makes my heart sad to know that so many in the body of Christ have fallen prey to and are being “entertained” by the very chains from which the Lord has set me free. I believe it makes the heart of God very sad too. And I will not hold my peace about this because you might be offended. It is time we grow and mature and act like the Holy Temple of the Living God that we are. The truth is the truth and I pray it will set you free to fight evil with good.

3 John 1:11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.
