His Lavish Scenery

Rocking in my garden chair
Kitty comes to visit
Day is breezy and fair
Spring has burst it’s prison

Rhaphiolepis lift up pink heads
Orange trees are in bloom
Green sprouts dot new flower beds
Flying bugs dart and zoom

Sunshine fills a cloudless sky
My heart warms from within
God’s faithfulness to you and I
His gifts abound despite our sin

Such beauty all around
Every day a new adventure
Stunning views, colors astound
His love pours out of nature

Join me in His greenery
Among the swaying trees
Breathe in His lavish scenery
Sit humbly at His knees.

A Bird’s Day

Twitters and flutters
Soaring and flying
Darting hoppers
Jumping and fighting

Eyeing Bugs
Splashing in waters
Pecking at slugs
Fence top squatters

Busy beauty
Colorful wings
Nesting duty
Joyfully sings

Thanking God
With amazement
Must applaud
Such grand entertainment!

Blue Sky

Could the sky be more blue?
It’s so clear today
Could the flowers be a more lovely hue?
They are at their peak today

All the greens seem even more so
Verdant boughs with fruit
Plump lemons swing to and fro
Cherries wear a bright red suit

Palm tree’s hands reach up high
As if to praise our King of kings
Thanking Him with each sway and sigh
While a bird to His glory sings

This garden visit lifts my soul
With the palms and birds I praise
Lord Jesus makes me whole
To Him my hands I raise!

Red Rock

Red_Rock_Canyon

Poem inspired by scenery on a recent drive through the Las Vegas Valley

Mountains red and jagged
Jutting from the desert floor
Surrounded by stark beauty
Joshua trees, rocks, cacti galore

Can’t take my eyes away
Each peak a work of art
Carved out by the hand of God
Awe and joy fill my heart!

Leafless

White bark, dead flowers
Bare branches crisscross the sky
Lacy leafless woven tapestry
Red headed bird flies by

Sweet songs catch my ears
What seemed dead is alive
Feathered chorus serenades
Then they quickly hide

Thank You Lord for the treasure
Of Your amazing creation
Lifts my heart with praises
It’s like a mini-vacation!

Sunshine Winked

IMG_20180413_171607489

His sunshine winked at me
I smiled back, delighted
Clear skies bathed me in a blue sea
Soft wind danced around excited

Brilliant magenta flowers laugh
Their leaves gently clap with joy
Butterfly took a daisy nap
Kitty chased a dried leaf “toy”

Bees dart, distant bells bong
My eyes find a lady bug gem
Unseen birds sing a happy song
Chimes try to join with them

In my garden I find such peace
Its surprises are never ending
God’s creation is always a feast
His presence and love abounding!

Lacy Autumn Shadows

IMG_20171022_151838629

Tall stand of gold
Shorter clump of burgundy
Burst of orange, bright and bold
Surrounds an old dead tree

Its branches barren
Still reaching for the sky
Beaten, weathered, worn
Trunk blackened, gray and dry

Encompassed by such beauty
A lavish Autumn color-fest
Standing guard its apparent duty
Starkness its stunning crest

The explosion of Fall hues
Overwhelms the forest soldier
Wind strong, creeks its bows
Branch crashes just past my shoulder

Leaves rustle and swirl at my feet
A dance of yellow and brown
Sun peeks out warming my seat
On the bench below its crown

There I find a place of rest
In the lacy shadows of that tree
Talking to my Lord God of Grace
I’m safe, calm, loved and free!

Day is Awakened

Moon-waning-gibbous-in-daytime-Aug5_2015SS.jpg

Beauty of that sliver of moon
Soft white against the pre-morning sky
Lovely azure turning clear blue too soon
Echoes of a mourning dove’s cry

Silence that wraps like a soft blanket
Interrupted by a cat’s meow
Sudden breeze, trees make a racket
Day is awakened, night takes a bow.

Sun arises glistening peach gold
Bird chorus erupts in a welcome song
Quiet transformed to noise, loud and bold
Workers pounding; saws whining strong

Still nothing can disturb the peace I feel
Remembering the still awe of sunrise
Such beauty my God reveals
Everyday He creates a new surprise.

Key West

img_20161205_173017268

Breeze tossing my hair to and fro
Warm then just a bit cool
Clouds part forsaking their gray tint
Sun brilliant; makes me squint

Crash! A wave breaks suddenly
Roaring tidal pool spinning violently
Quiet surprise then Crash again
Spray cold drops splatter my skin

Rooster crows a robust cry
Hen scratches and pecks nearby
Cooing mourning doves a pair
Iguana bright green runs past my chair

Voices muffled by the surf
Scream! A child splashing playing nurf
Palms playfully dance and sway
Ocean, endless blue; perfect day!

Thankful, praising God aloud
Creation loveliness all around
Sunset beauty such joy and peace
Praying: Lord, bless this place

A Perfect Spring Day

12933039_10153343771756036_4329313370125283501_n

Azaleas full bloom
Geraniums wind-dance
Bees soar and zoom
Small trees seem to prance

Spring winds so gusty
Send kites to flight
Squeaking gate, old, rusty
Bangs the fence in a fight

Sun warms my face
Waltzing pines put on a show
Two jays in a race
Cross sky-blue chasing a crow

Flowers everywhere
A colorful rainbow
Trees green beyond compare
I’m happy; heart aglow

Everything’s brand new
What looked dead, now alive
Butterfly visits on cue
A day to celebrate, not just survive

God loves us in every way
He gives us lovely gifts
Like a perfect Spring day
As our weary hearts He lifts
